Charlotte Emma Aitchison\u00a0(\/\u02c8e\u026at\u0283\u026as\u0259n\/\u00a0AY-chih-suhn;\u00a0born 2 August 1992), known professionally as\u00a0Charli XCX, is a British singer, songwriter, record producer, actress and DJ. She began posting songs on\u00a0Myspace\u00a0in 2008 before entering the London\u00a0rave\u00a0scene. Signing a recording contract with\u00a0Asylum Records\u00a0in 2010, Charli XCX released a series of singles and mixtapes in the early 2010s. In 2012, she was featured on “I Love It” by Swedish duo\u00a0Icona Pop, which became her first number-one song in the UK and received global success. Her debut studio album,\u00a0True Romance\u00a0(2013), was released to positive reviews but failed to meet commercial expectations.<\/p>\n
In 2014, Charli XCX was featured on\u00a0Iggy Azalea’s single “Fancy”, which became her most-streamed song and one of the year’s\u00a0best-selling singles worldwide. The same year, she released “Boom Clap”, which became her first solo top-ten single in the US. Her second studio album, the\u00a0punk-influenced\u00a0Sucker\u00a0(2014), spawned the singles “Break the Rules” and “Doing It”. She began working alongside producers associated with the UK collective\u00a0PC Music\u00a0in 2015, developing a more\u00a0experimental\u00a0sound and image. She released the EP\u00a0Vroom Vroom\u00a0(2016) and the mixtapes\u00a0Number 1 Angel\u00a0and\u00a0Pop 2\u00a0(both 2017). Charli XCX’s fifth studio album, Crash (2022), became her first number-one album in the UK and Australia. She contributed the UK top-ten single “Speed Drive” as part of the soundtrack of the 2023 film Barbie. Her sixth studio album, Brat (2024), became her second UK number-one album and was named the best album of 2024 by various publications, such as Billboard and Rolling Stone. The album spawned the UK top-ten hit “Apple” and her remix album brought her second number-one song, “Guess”, featuring Billie Eilish. Brat and its songs won three Grammy Awards: Best Dance Pop Recording for “Von Dutch”, Best Dance\/Electronic Album, and Best Recording Package. Culturally, the album sparked a phenomenon dubbed Brat Summer, which served as an inspiration for Aidan Zamiri’s film The Moment (2026) that she co-produced and starred in.<\/p>\n
In addition to her solo work, Charli XCX has co-written songs for other artists, including Iggy Azalea’s “Beg for It” (2014),\u00a0Selena Gomez’s “Same Old Love” (2015),\u00a0Blondie’s “Tonight” (2017), the\u00a0Shawn Mendes\u00a0and\u00a0Camila Cabello\u00a0collaboration “Se\u00f1orita” (2019), and the\u00a0Sigala and\u00a0Rita Ora\u00a0collaboration “You for Me” (2021).
