Gary Alan Sinise (born March 17, 1955) is an American actor, film director, humanitarian, and musician. Among other awards, he has won a Primetime Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Tony Award, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards. He has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was nominated for an Academy Award.<\/p>\n
He has also received\u00a0numerous awards and honors\u00a0for his extensive humanitarian work and involvement with charitable organizations. He is a supporter of various veterans’ organizations and founded the\u00a0Lt. Dan Band\u00a0(named after his character in\u00a0Forrest Gump), which plays at military bases around the world.<\/p>\n
His acting career started on stage with the\u00a0Steppenwolf Theatre Company\u00a0in 1983 when he directed and starred in a production of\u00a0Sam Shepard’s\u00a0True West\u00a0for which he earned a\u00a0Obie Award. He would later earn four\u00a0Tony Award\u00a0nominations including for his performances in\u00a0The Grapes of Wrath\u00a0and\u00a0One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. He earned the\u00a0Tony Award’s Regional Theatre Award\u00a0alongside the\u00a0Steppenwolf Theatre Company.<\/p>\n
He first starred in the film adaptation of\u00a0John Steinbeck’s classic novel\u00a0Of Mice and Men\u00a0which he also directed and produced. Sinise played\u00a0George Milton alongside John Malkovich\u00a0who played\u00a0Lennie.<\/p>\n
One of his most well-known roles is as\u00a0Lieutenant Dan Taylor\u00a0in\u00a0Forrest Gump (1994) for which he was nominated for the\u00a0Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also appeared in other feature films including\u00a0Ron Howard’s Apollo 13 (1995), Ransom (1996), Frank Darabont’s\u00a0The Green Mile\u00a0(1999) and\u00a0Impostor\u00a0(2002).<\/p>\n
His television performances include\u00a0Harry S. Truman in\u00a0Truman\u00a0 (1995), for which he won a Golden Globe, and the\u00a0title role\u00a0in the television film George Wallace, for which he received a\u00a0Primetime Emmy Award.<\/p>\n
He had a leading role as Detective\u00a0Mac Taylor\u00a0in the\u00a0CBS\u00a0drama series\u00a0CSI: NY\u00a0(2004\u201313). From 2016 to 2017, he starred as Special Agent\u00a0Jack Garrett\u00a0in\u00a0Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. In 2017, he had a role on the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.<\/p>\n
